Rep. Barbara Jordan speaks on Immigration

Barbara Jordan (D) was the first African-American woman to be elected to the United States House of Representatives from the State of Texas. She chaired a commission to examine the issues relating to legal immigration. Her commission called for:
- End immigration for low-skilled workers
- Enhanced border security
- Prevention
Listen to what she had to say about legal immigration. Her position could not be more clear and sensible.
“We have concluded that a properly regulated legal immigration is in the national interest.”
“I said properly regulated and I mean it!”
“Immigration is not a right guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution to everyone, anywhere in the world, who thinks they want to come want to to come to the United States.”
“Immigration is a privilege. It is a privilege granted — granted by the people of the United States to those WE chose to admit.”
